Ouch!

Yesterday Kate had her one month doctor's appointment (she's actually 5 weeks though).  The nurse checked us in here are her stats:

Weight: 9 lb, 10 oz (55 percentile)
Height: 21.75 in (67 percentile)
Head: 38 cm (68 percentile)

I knew she was gaining weight, but I didn't think she'd be almost 10 pounds! Wow, girl, you are certainly growing! Good job!

Dr. Pott checked her out and said everything looked great.

After all of that, they gave her a Hepatitis B shot.  It was the worst moment of parenthood thus far.  I had to hold her little baby hands while they stuck a (rather sizable) needle into Kate's thigh.  She instantly turned beat red and screamed! I picked her up as soon as they would let me and calmed her down, but mad was that hard.  I don't like to see her cry anyway, but to know it was coming was a bad feeling.  Next month, she gets a bunch of shots and I'm REALLY not looking forward to that.

1 Month

I absolutely cannot believe that Kate is already a month old! It seems like we just brought her home from the hospital yesterday.  When I look at her, I can tell; all of her facial features are bigger, her hands fit a little differently into mine, and her hair is certainly growing.  When I pick her up, I can tell then too.  She definitely weighs more.

I can't say every day has been easy, but every day has been full of joy.  Kate has brought so much laughter and so many smiles to our lives in these short weeks and we LOVE watching her grow.

Right now, she's still in newborn clothes (though not for long) and newborn size diapers.  She's moving her arms and legs more and has more awake periods throughout the day.  She smiles more - not in response to us, but just because she's happy.  She usually falls asleep in the car, and she is doing great with feeding.  During the day, she usually goes about 3 hours between eating, and about 4 hours at night. She still has a very awake time from about 9:00 pm - midnight, but we're hoping that changes soon.  Matt usually stays up with her and gets her down and then I get up to feed her twice a night.

I am trying to treasure the times throughout the day that we have together and not worry about getting other things done too much, but for a busy-body like me, that's not always easy.  I love cuddling with Kate, holding her while she sleeps, her cute baby noises, and all of her expressive faces.  I especially love her little lips:)

In just one short month, we've learned so much about being parents, about each other, and about our beautiful, new little daughter.  She is amazing, and we love being her mom and dad.

I'm hoping to take monthly pictures of her to document her growth over this first year.  Here are a few from her 1 month photo shoot:)

New Parents!

I've been meaning to start a blog for a few years now; as a place to share our lives with the people we love, a place to share recipes, crafty projects, and the like.  I never got around to it, but now that we're parents, it's time to make it happen.

I hope this will be a way to record and remember what we're up to these days.  Here goes!

Our first family photo:)

Ready to bring our little blessing home from the hospital
